Get Vocal in Your Local interactive survey

The Review into the Future for Local Government by the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) was an opportunity for Kiwi’s to have a voice in shaping what local governance and our democracy itself will look like over the next 30 years. Effect and  Massey University’s Toi Aria teamed up to design and build  a tool that would help rangatahi (youth) express how they felt about the future of local governance.

Our project was not just designing the web experience, it was also designing the content of the survey. The collaborative design process with Toi Aria was from a content first perspective. As we went through the design process we tested our questions with rangatahi and then moved the survey questions into a simple and fun user experience with a range of survey question types and inputs.

As a result of the survey which had a 75% completion rate, the DIA was provided a wealth of data about the future of our local democracies including 45% of the participants being bewteen 10-25.
